Who is Jesus? Part 2

Jesus, God’s Word, on a mission to save the world.

Last time we started exploring Jesus and hopefully your group found some stories about Him helpful. This week we’re going deeper—looking at how Jesus is available to us, personally, today.

Who is Jesus? Part 2

  • Say something like this:
“So far in this programme, we've met a number of characters—trying to understand who they represent, and what that means for us.

We saw Kana and Ningen’s relationship, which began like a parent and child. Later, Ningen made a choice he would regret. In the next sessions, we saw Ningen alone—representing us—and looked at how we’re meant for connection.

Then we met Miyako, who represents Satan and the pull towards doing wrong. We explored sin and how God reaches out with love to rescue us.

Today, we’ll continue to focus on the hero of the story—Hikaru.”

  • Jesus, God’s Word, on a mission to save the world

    Discussion Questions:

    • Imagine you’re a superhero—what superpower would you want?

    • In the video, John describes Jesus as God’s words on a mission. What do you think that means?

    • What do you think Jesus’ mission is?

  • In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

    Suggested Bible passages:

    • Matthew 14:22–33 – Jesus walks on water

    • Mark 8:22–25 – Jesus heals a blind man

    • Luke 11:1–13 – Jesus teaches how to pray

    • John 11:38–44 – Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead

Provide each young person with a luggage tag and pen. After reading the passage, ask them to write what they’ve learned about Jesus on the tag. Collect all the tags and thread them onto a sturdy string or rope to form a loop.

This loop will visually represent how everything about Jesus is connected. Keep it safe—it's needed again next session.

    • Which words or phrases stood out to you in the passage?

    • Which parts were difficult to understand?

    • Read it again—are there any parts you now understand better?

    • What does this passage tell us about Jesus?

  • Jesus is described as God’s Word—and our words have power too.

Give each young person post-it notes. Ask them to write as many positive words as they can—things that express hope, love, and encouragement. Encourage them to write words that describe others in the group too.

Use the post-its to create a vibrant display.

Leader tip: Shape ideas include a cross, heart, or sunburst. Be as creative or simple as you like.

  • By now you have:

    • A loop of tags describing amazing things about Jesus that connect together

    • A display of positive words, including affirmations from the group

    Invite each young person to:

    1. Gift a word from the display to someone in the group—speak it or hand it over.

    2. Choose one Jesus tag from the loop that feels meaningful to them (you may need to untie the loop).

Leader tip: Model this first. Share which tag speaks to you or what positive word stood out. Vulnerability encourages honesty and connection.

  • Say something like this:
“Last week, we created a loop filled with things we discovered about Jesus.
This week, we’ve made something new—a collection of words others have spoken about you.
If someone else sees something good in you, how much more does Jesus see?
How much more might the Creator of the world know and love you?

Keep the word someone gave you and the Jesus tag you chose. Let them remind you of two things:

    • How much God knows you

    • How much you feel you know Him right now”

Encourage them to reflect on both as you pray together.

  • You’ll know the best approach for your group. Start by asking if anyone has anything they’d like to pray about. You might also invite them to pray for each other.

    Prayer ideas:

    • Ask God to deepen their understanding of who Jesus is.

    • Pray that each young person feels Jesus’ love in their own life.

    • Thank Jesus for all the amazing things we’ve discovered about Him.
